Hello, and welcome to my blog on the use of ICT by under 5's.
Firstly this blog is for my degree class in Politics, Pedagogy and Policy taught at EIT (Eastern Institute of Technology) for the ECE (Early Childhood Education) degree.
Please feel free to post comments or anything that you feel may contribute to this blog.
So the journey starts.
I have chosen this topic as I am passionate about it. I am still uncertain whether I am for or against technology being used with very young children. I hold a Steiner certificate in education and worked for One year in a Steiner Kindergarten. I have spent the last two years working and doing placement in a Best Start centre while studying my degree.
I would like to find out more information on this topic because the centre has just had I-pads introduced for the children/Tamariki and Teachers to use and I part of this process, I am still unclear about whether or not I agree with this.
During the next few weeks I will look at
- When where and how technology has come into our centres otherwise known as the historical context.
- I will look at the legislation and politics that surround the issue of technology in Early Childhood.
- What is the teachers responsibility and implications for the curriculum and children's learning.

ReplyDeleteI feel ICT has a place in ECE but as a tool for teachers to become more efficient time wise, as they record observations etc to document children's learning. I have found that not many of the centres I have worked in have had computers/tablets/laptops out for the children to use when ever they wish but ICT is used to add value to what children are learning through other media sources.
I am interested to see what you discover on your journey.
